Your beloved four-legged family member should fur sure be part of the wedding fashion for your big day (see what I did there?). After all, they’re part of the family too! However, there are more ideas out there than the classic black tie or wedding tutu/dress.

As a pet wedding attendant, I’ve been lucky enough to help take care of many doggos on their owners’ wedding days, making sure that they are looking great for all the photos, feeding them throughout the day, and more. Needless to say, I’ve seen many different fun and unique wedding day outfits for dogs!

So, what are you waiting for? Keep reading to learn more about 12 of the best dog outfits for weddings, as well as some of my best tips for dressing your dog for your big day.

Best Dog Outfits for Weddings

Floral Collars

First up is one of my favorites: floral collars. They are great and beautiful but can fall apart pretty quickly, so faux flowers can also be a good option for dogs. It’s always great to chat with your florist about this and to test anything new that will be attached to a leash pre-wedding!

Flower collars also come in a variety of styles and colors, so you can find just the right one to match your wedding theme so your dog can be part of the main event. Not only do they add style and flair to your pup’s look, but they can also be designed to comfortably fit your pet without being annoying.

Plus, since they are lightweight, your dog won’t be trying to get it off themselves during the entire event. They are the perfect addition of pizazz without going too over-the-top when it comes to dog outfits for weddings.

Classic Black Tie

Want something more “traditional?” Well, you could also go with a classic black tie look. This timeless look is one that will still be classy 50 years from now and it is a fairly popular option for pet owners looking to dress their dog for their big day.

Not only can a little tuxedo and black tie be extremely chic, but it does an excellent job of making your pup truly look like they are part of the ceremony. You could even accessorize with a matching leash to give your dog that extra level of sophistication.

With a classic black tie look, your dog won’t have any trouble keeping up with the fashionable crowd in attendance on your wedding day!

Styled Bandana

If your dog is used to wearing bandanas, a styled bandana can be a great way to go. This is another classic choice that won’t make your dog feel like they’re dressing too out of character, which can help with their comfort throughout the day.

Bandanas come in an array of colors, designs, and even fun writing to make your pup stand out from the crowd. For instance, you could get your and your partner’s initials written on the bandana if you wanted!

Bow Tie

Another timeless option when it comes to dog outfits for weddings is bow ties. They have been a top fashion choice for centuries! Whether your wedding is a formal event or something a little more whimsical and outdoors, your pup can look just as fashionable as you in this ensemble.

Similar to styled bandanas, bow ties come in vibrant colors with unique patterns and materials, giving you plenty of options to choose from for your pooch. Plus, bow ties are an easy accessory to place directly onto any pet color.

Full Tuxedo

Full tuxedoes are definitely one of the most stylish and classy outfits for dogs in weddings. Not only does it make them look extra professional, but it will truly make them feel like they are part of your big day. (Let’s be honest - they may even win best-dressed.)

There are tons of fun tuxedo looks out there for pups. You could even have them dress in a fun color that matches the theme of your wedding, or dress them to match the style of your bouquet.

Wedding Dress

Wedding dresses or tutus for dogs are definitely one of the best outfits to have your dog feel like they are part of your big day. Not only do they look picture-perfect, but they can also be custom-made to suit any breed and size.

Instead of a dress, you could also go for a fun, styled tutu! These can be custom-made online from Etsy sellers if you want something really unique.

Cute Hats

Hats are the perfect accessory for a wedding day outfit if you don’t want to put your pup in full clothes. They make them look even cuter, and your guests will love seeing them in the hats. You could go for anything from a cute bucket hat to a stylish top hat or anything in between.

Flower Crown

Flower crowns are another excellent choice when it comes to dog outfits for weddings. Not only do they add a beautiful touch of nature-inspired vibes to the occasion, but they also come in so many different colors and sizes that you can be sure you will find one to match the occasion.

Plus, flower crowns are lightweight and comfortable for your dog, meaning that they won’t have to suffer any discomfort on your big day.

Satin Cape

A satin cape, or cape of any type, is another stylish and elegant outfit for your pup. They could also be customized with your pup’s name or even your and your partner’s initials for the big day.

Just make sure that the cape isn’t styled in a way that it gets in your dog’s way while they are wearing it. You don’t want them to accidentally trip on the cape, for instance.

Bejeweled Leash

A bejeweled leash can be another easy option to style your dog for the occasion without fully dressing them up! Not only can they add a touch of sparkle or shine to your canine’s look, but they also ensure your dog stays safe and secure while being the life of the party.

Lacey Harness

A simple way to dress your dog up for a wedding day is by putting them in a lacey or styled harness. This keeps them from running off (especially if they are smaller pups and need a harness) but also keeps them stylish!

These could be custom-made or even purchased from other small online pet wedding vendors. Plus, many big-name retailers will sell unique harnesses, like Petco.

Match Their Outfits With Yours

Having a matching outfit with your dog is an adorable way to dress up, too. Your pup will be the cutest guest at the ceremony and reception!

For instance, you could get a pup-sized version of your or your partner’s outfit to dress your dog up in. This could make for some really fun, memorable photos, too!

Tips for Dressing Your Dog for a Wedding

Consider getting an outfit that’s easy to put on and take off

When it comes to dressing your dog for your wedding, you want to make sure the clothes you get can easily be put on and removed. Don’t get something that’s super difficult or time-consuming. You don’t want them to miss any parts of the wedding!

Test out the costume before the big day

Similar to your fittings, make sure you test out the costume for your pup before the big day. Let them walk around in it so they are used to it and make sure it fits. This also allows you to have time to make any adjustments to their outfit beforehand if you have to.

Buy something custom

One of the easiest ways to make sure you have an outfit that matches your wedding aesthetic perfectly is to get something custom. This can also ensure that the outfit fits your dog perfectly, too. One of the best places to do this is Etsy!

Choose a style that reflects your wedding vibe

To make sure your dog’s outfit matches the aesthetic, be sure to also pick an outfit that matches the style of your wedding. If you have a rock n’ roll style wedding, for instance, you won’t want to get a whimsical-vibe outfit for them.

Make sure to pick something that won’t bother your dog’s skin

At the end of the day, you want your dog to still be comfortable throughout the entire day. While a pet wedding attendant like us can help a lot with your dog’s comfort throughout the day, you want to make sure the outfit you buy them is one that won’t rub against your dog’s skin in an uncomfortable way.

Even an accessory goes a long way

If you want to jump on the trend of dressing your dog for a wedding but don’t want to go full out with an outfit, know that a small accessory can really go a long way! A hat, floral collar, or bejeweled leash can be the perfect snazzy accessory.
